EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., April 2, 2008 – Hortica Insurance & Employee Benefits, specialists in providing business insurance, employee benefits and personal insurance since 1887, is pleased to announce Mona Haberer as its new company president and CEO, effective April 1, 2008. Haberer replaces Robert McClellan, who is retiring after 21 years with the company. McClellan will assume the role of special advisor to the president during the transition period until his official retirement in July. Haberer has been with the company for nearly 20 years, most recently serving as chief financial officer, treasurer and senior vice president for the past nine years. A CPA, she holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Eastern Illinois University and is a member of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants. Haberer has been a resident of the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon community for more than 20 years and lives with her husband and two children. “Bob has been an excellent mentor and friend who retires with a knowledgeable management team in place. Hortica is financially strong and well positioned for growth,” said Haberer. “We’re excited about our plans to expand Hortica Insurance & Employee Benefits in the metropolitan area by selling personal and commercial insurance to local businesses and households.” McClellan has served as president and CEO of Hortica since 1994, and held several senior management positions prior to his appointment. A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, McClellan received the university’s Distinguished Service Award in 2007 for his contributions to the Gardens at SIUE. Throughout his career, McClellan has been an active member of various boards and community groups including The Alliance of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon Executive Council, SIUE Foundation Board, the Lewis & Clark Community College Foundation Board, and the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois Board. “I know healthy people who retire with the expectation of relaxation and fun because they are some how ‘entitled to that.’ I don’t feel that way and self actualization is off my radar screen. I have much to offer my family including lots of grandkids, my community and my country. I want to remain, for as long as my health permits, an asset not a liability to society.” About Hortica
